10 - "Autumn Moon" (c) 2024 Kevin DeFeo
from the album "Southern Heart, Yankee Mouth"

Autumn moon, what do you hold for me?
Clouds wrapped around you like lace curtains
Bright yet spotty, a mystery it seems
Lighting a path that's uncertain

Birthing moon of spring was so long ago
Yet sometime, seems like yesterday
Younglings were born, got nurtured
Grew up to work and play

Staring at you Autumn Moon, on a chilly night
I hear the firewood burn and splinter
Thinking of what's come and gone and what might lie ahead
How much can I get in before the winter

Wind stirs the fallen leaves, their fragile forms crinkle
And break as they blow down the street
Wasn't long ago that they were green up in the trees
Now they rush away like my memories

Days roll on, and they get shorter
The darkness weighs heavy on my mind
First frost has come and that's a warning
The killing snow of winter's close behind

Staring at you Autumn Moon, on a chilly night
I hear the firewood burn and splinter
Thinking of what's come and gone and what might lie ahead
How much can I get in before the winter

Staring at you Autumn Moon, on a chilly night
I Hear the firewood burn and splinter
Thinking of what's come and gone and what might lie ahead
How long have I got until winter
How much time before winter
How much can I fit in before the winter
